Strategist McJones posted a marked regression in his second season with Joe Judge as position coach and Matt Patricia as lead caller.

But Jones’ trajectory could change in 2023 – or so he expects.

MassLive.com’s Mark Daniels reports that a source close to Jones says the QB is “very” excited about the Patriots hiring Bill O’Brien to be their next offensive coordinator.

Although they weren’t together for one season at Alabama, Jones and O’Brien crossed paths as the quarterback entered the NFL and O’Brien began his tenure as the program’s OC. O’Brien said Jones helped him learn about the Alabama offense.

Daniels reported that another source said that for Jones, it would be “nice to start a new working relationship with someone you’ve had the opportunity to work with before.”

Jones led the Patriots to a 10-7 rookie record in 2021 and was second in voting for AP Offensive Rookie of the Year. He completed 67.6% of his passes for 3,801 yards with 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, good for a passer rating of 92.5.

In 2022, Jones threw 65.2% for 2,997 yards with 14 touchdowns and 11 picks. His passer rating has dropped to 84.8.
