Elementary school in Las Vegas was in harsh lockdown due to shootings between adults

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a shooting in the West Valley on Tuesday afternoon.

Police responded at 1:35 p.m. to the 900 block of Doolittle Avenue. Police call the area a “dynamic scene” and advise the public to avoid the area.

KTNV’s Sean DeLancey arrived at the scene and reported that SWAT was also on the scene along with police.

The shooting also happened near Matt Kelly Elementary School.

Injuries have been reported and medical personnel are responding, police said.

Capt. Raul Rodriguez briefed local stations on what happened in the 900 block of Doolittle Avenue.

Rodriguez said the dispatcher received a call for duty at 1:06 p.m. for a dispute between neighbors. When officers arrived at the scene, they heard gunshots.

The police investigation indicates that three adults were in an argument which escalated into gunfire. The three adults involved have non-life threatening injuries according to police and they have all been sent to a local hospital.

Due to the gunshots, the neighboring school had to be quarantined. At around 4 p.m., police said CCSD police had begun releasing the students.

“All students are safe and catered for,” Rodriguez said. “There are no outstanding threats to the community.”
